Second Brain Surgery, day 2 and 3

After the first night in the recovery room I spent most of the day waiting for a whole lot of nothing. A technician came into my "room" to take me to a portable CAT Scan to check for swelling and bleeding. Since I was in recovery they took me into a storage closet that had the CAT scan. They threw around so roughly that I worried that I would hit my already damaged head. Since the CAT scan was clean I was clear to go to the regular neuro ward and not wait for an ICU room.
Over 2 hours later I was sent for an MRI. I panicked that I was going in an MRI with staples in my head. I asked every nurse and technician that I could find if it would be okay because I feared that they would get ripped out. Every person had the same vague answers, "I guess it will be okay" or "it should be fine." This did not put me at ease and I just hoped that my surgeon not a resident ordered the MRI. The MRI showed a small amount of "flair" in the hippocampus, which was less then the pre-op MRI. I am still unsure what this all means, but I was too out of it to ask for more details. After my MRI I finally received a room on the neuro floor. I had a roommate who was very nice. More family came and at time it was too overwhelming to take it all in. Although I appreciated the company I still needed rest.
After dinner they removed my catheter and I had to begin to walk around. I was unsteady on my feet, but not as fearful as during my first surgery. I had a busy day of visitors and walking. I still was not getting any sleep as I was woken up so often for meds and stat checks. My walks consisted of going to the bathroom and walking the hallway grabbing onto Karl's hand.
When day 3 rolled around I was ready to go home, which is a big difference from my first surgery. I was so scared the last time, but this time I was ready to get out of the hospital. A PT came to assess my walking skills. She recommended vestibular outpatient rehab, which I feel I needed since my last surgery. I am excited about going because I feel it will help motivate me to move and get me out of the apartment. Day three was uneventful as I was just waiting around for discharge papers and prescriptions. I was wheeled out at 4pm and got home shortly after. We picked my all my pharmacy needs and dinner. It felt good to be home and I was finally able to get some sleep. I have to take steroids to prevent brain swelling, which make it difficult to sleep. They make me wired, tired, hungry and irritable. I am sure I am not too pleasant to be around. I fear the withdrawal of the drugs, as I know it will be a rough few days. Hopefully my body will feel a little more normal (whatever that is) after I am off the drugs.
