I cannot believe the summer is over and I had surgery 2 months ago. The weeks following my surgery I slowly went out and did things. I received my pathology report stating the remainder of the tumor is a DNET- yeah!
I continued to have simple partial seizures, which are not that bad but a nuisance. My NO and neurologist played around with my meds. On the increased dose I continued to have seizures and the side effects started to kick in. My emotions were all over the place (mainly anger and sadness). I felt myself slipping into a depression. I hoped it was the meds, but contacted a psyco-social oncology counseling program. I also contacted my neuro who lowered my meds. I went to two session with a therapist and I am not sure what I am supposed to do there, lol, but it cant hurt to give it a shot. In the meantime I track my seizures to see if I need an EEG. So far I have been seizure free for two weeks- woohoo! Having my seizures under control really gave me some of my independence back.
I have noticed memory issues that have got worse from this surgery. It is hard to explain, but it is hard for me to make new memories. I also continue to have trouble with visual memory.
I have been doing more to get help this time around. On Monday I (finally) got a PT evaluation. Now I just have to wait for my insurance to approve the therapy. I am starting to do some exercises that focus on decreasing dizziness and increasing my balance. I feel this will really improve my quality of life.
Today I went to the eye doctor at Sloan Kettering for my post-op follow up. He said my optic nerve looked good and I did not lose any more vision. As he stated I "came out of surgery with everything I went in with." Yeah! even though he was only talking about my vision, lol.
I am nervous and excited to return to work next week. Anxious about keeping up with the work, especially since the beginning of the year is the most stressful. I am also anxious because on top of work I have a lot going on in the fall. I am excited to get back into my normal routine, as I feel this will help me. I am also excited to see my coworkers and students. This will be a busy year, but I am just glad to be here to experience all of it (good and bad)!
