This blog started out with me trying to fight (what was diagnosed as) Chronic Fatigue Syndrome by having a healthy lifestyle. I also wanted to lessen my carbon footprint in the process. My plan was to chronicle the changes I made in my life to "save myself and the planet" (which was my old title). A few months after I began this blog I was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It changed the direction of blog, so I needed to change the title.

Still unsure
Two surgeons and my NO have called me to discuss what should happen next. No one seems to know what to do with me and this tumor that inhabits my brain. My surgeon (who I fully trust) better explained to me that if the remainder of my tumor is removed I will probably lose the left side of my vision in each eye. Since the tumor is not causing much of an issue right now he does not want to take this risk. I agree that the risk does not seem worth it. The surgeon at Sloan Kettering pretty much told me to just get the tumor out and worry about the (minimal) side effect later. He made it sound like there would be no side effects because it is not my dominate side. Wow, I know enough about neuroanatomy/physio to know what damage to my non-dominate side can do. I did not like his attitude. The main reason why I fully trust my NS is because he looks at me as a whole not just my tumor. Now I wait for my NO to come back from vacation. She is going to discuss everything with my team of doctors then let me in on the next step. It is frustrating that no one knows what to do. My first instinct is to see a zillion other doctors to get opinions, yet the more research I do the more I see that no one knows what to do. Since my tumor type is sooo rare and new that there is no real scientific research for treatment. I feel the same as I did when I was first diagnosed- in limbo. I keep hoping that the next step will give me answers, but now I know better. My new life with a brain tumor will be filled with unknowns and waiting. Now that I realize this and I am not waiting for all the answers some of the stress has disappears. I like to be active and fight this thing head-on, but if waiting is the next step then I have to wait. I will continue to fight in my own ways, but medically I will wait.
